Television is one of the world's most important telecommunication mediums. Programs are broadcast via various channels. The language surrounding this powerful and influential medium and its related industries is very telling. Let's take a look at some of that language. What patterns do we see?
Medium: an agency or means of doing something; a means by which something is communicated or expressed; the intervening substance through which impressions are conveyed to the senses or a force acts on objects at a distance; the substance in which an organism lives or is cultured. A medium also refers to a person who conveys spiritual messages from the dead/angels/aliens etc. to the living.
Channel: a band of frequencies used in radio and television transmission; a medium for communication or the passage of information. Channeling is the act or practice of serving as a medium through which a spirit guide communicates with living persons.
To broadcast is to sow (seed, a flowering plant's unit of reproduction) over a wide area. To broadcast means to communicate, or transmit, a signal, or message, or program to numerous recipients simultaneously over a network.
A program is a set of related measures or activities with a particular long-term aim; a planned series of future events or performances; a series of coded software instructions to control the operation of a computer or other machine, (a machine like the human brain, perhaps).
Hollywood is a major center of the American motion-picture and television industries located in Los Angeles (the angels), California. Hollywood, or simply holly, can also refer to the evergreen shrub. Associated with dreams and the subconscious, druids regarded holly as a symbol of fertility and eternal life and commonly used holly as a divine focus when casting spells. Holly was believed to have magical powers and, energetically, believed to help open the "heart". "Follow your heart" is a common theme in countless Hollywood films and television shows. Compare that to what the Bible says about our hearts, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?", Jeremiah 17:9.
The Romans associated holly with Saturn, the god of agriculture and harvest and would commonly deck their halls with its boughs during the festival of Saturnalia, a mid-winter festival and holiday celebrated between December 17 and 23 where Christmas gets many of its customs (dinner/banquets, gift giving, lighting of candles etc.). Read what the Bible says about adapting the traditions of pagans: "Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not." Jeremiah 10:2-4.
Hollywood is the place to see stars. Besides describing a famous or exceptionally talented performer in the world of entertainment or sports, a star is a celestial body, especially a plant (like Saturn), supposed to influence events, personalities, etc. The Bible uses the imagery of stars to represent angels, (Revelation 1:20, Job 38:7).
Hollywood stars are often worshiped as idols. And idol is an image used as an object of worship; a false god. And image is a representation of the form of a person or object; a likeness or semblance. Satan, or Lucifer, is also a star that desired to be worshiped as a god and even fancies himself the god of this world.
"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High." Isaiah 14:12-14 (See also 2 Corinthians 4:4.)
Television is a system for transmitting visual images and sound that are reproduced on screens, chiefly used to broadcast programs for entertainment, information, and education. Television is a combination of tele, meaning "at a distance" and vision, meaning "something seen in the imagination or in the supernatural".
Interestingly, frogs can broadcast their voices, from a distance, in order to deceive. Many species of frogs, such as the Vietnamese mossy frog, the Pacific Tree frog, and Coqui frogs throw their voices in order to avoid detection.
The Bible warns us in 1 Timothy 4:1 that in the last days "some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. And in Revelation 16:13-14 the apostle John describes a scene from the last days where he saw "three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty."
In case there was still any question whether anything good could come out of Hollywood...
